S.O.D. "Night of the Vampire" by Roky Erickson
8/31/2016 This guy was one of the first innovators of psychedelic rock and believe it or not he is still going strong in his 52nd year in the biz. 31 albums and a number of singles are to his credit with his most popular song being "You're Gonna Miss Me," released in 1966. The man is truly hard-core rock and roll, as he quit high school just before graduation so he would not have to cut his hair to go along with school code. What's even more impressive is that after he quit school he pursued his dream. Many who quit school just get a job at McDonald's or a factory.
His forming of the psychedelic rock/acid rock group the 13th Floor Elevators possibly marked a moment in history of the first psychedelic rock band ever. Cofounder and electric jug player Tommy Hall supposedly coined the genre "psychedelic rock." The 13th Floor Elevators were active from 1965–1969 and were a huge influence on many musical groups including ZZ Top, Primal Scream and R.E.M. There are some fantastic testimonials regarding this band including one by Johnny Depp. Go online and entertain your brain.
