S.O.D. "Vogue" by Madonna
8/31/2015 This song and video were both nominated in just about every category with 14 nominations and seven wins. In fact, this 1990 release written by Madonna and Shep Pettibone, did many things to inspire musicians and shape the face of music. In the video, Madonna and company can be seen vogueing, a type of dance created by the underground gay scene performed in New York night clubs. It was the #1 single and best selling single of 1990 with 6 million units sold.
Not only did it inspire dance, but also created from its influence a new underground subculture. Simply about a person enjoying oneself on the dance floor and a theme of escapism, it has been ranked on many lists and topped the charts in more than 30 countries. MTV has ranked the music video at #2 on their list of the 100 Greatest Music Videos Ever Made, 2nd only to only Michael Jackson's "Thriller".
Madonna wears many hats (9 occupations in all) and aside from music she is also an accomplished actress and author. She was born Madonna Louise Ciccone in Bay City, Michigan in 1958 and has been active in the music industry since 1979. Her accomplishments and record-setting career is something you should read. Guinness World Records has her listed as the best selling female recording artist of all time with over 300 million records sold worldwide and the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) named her best selling female rock artist of the 20th century.
