S.O.D. "Long John Silver" by Jefferson Airplane

6/27/2015     This is the title track from their 1972 album with only a genre of psychedelic rock.  One of the bands in that era that did everything psychedelic; in the studio, on stage and in their brains.  Lyrics by Grace Slick and composed by the band's bassist Jack Casady.  It is their seventh studio album and the last album with new material until 1989.

The tune is simply about the pirate Long John Silver and his heroism.  Also some nice long lead guitar solos.  The album peaked at  #20 and the single only at #102.  Jefferson Airplane was active from 1965 to 1972, then in 1989 and for a bit in 1996.  Spinoffs of the band include Jefferson Starship, Starship, Hot Tuna and the KBC band. Jefferson Airplane was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
