S.OD. "Cherry Bomb" by The Runaways
5/10/2016 Here you have the first all girl band that played hard rock/heavy-metal. It took them quite a while to find the right members, but after five different lineups, they found the sound and attendance for a successful launch. They were formed in 1975 by Joan Jett and drummer Sandy West. With the addition of bassist/vocalist Micki Steele, they started out as a power trio, playing the Los Angeles night club circuit.
The name Runaways was due to them being under age, that's right, under 18 years old. The most popular lineup consisted of Joan Jett on rhythm guitar and vocals, Sandy west on drums, Lita Ford displaying lead guitar, lead vocalist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox. Becoming more popular overseas, especially in Japan, where in 1977 they were the 4th most popular imported music artists behind Abba, KISS and Led Zeppelin.
In 1979 they went their separate but successful ways. A 2010 documentary called "The Runaways", was made starring Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart. This tune is considered their signature song.
