S.O.D. "Yakety Yak" by The Coasters
3/30/2016 Make sure you keep doing your chores or "you ain't gonna rock and roll no more." This actually refers to a teenager in song who would rather talk back to his parents saying "yackety yak." Written by lyricist Jerome "Jerry" Leiber and composer Mike Stoller, it's supposed to refer to, as Leiber puts it, "a white teenagers view of a black person's conception of white society."
In the late 50s, the rhythm and blues/rock 'n' roll group pretty much ruled the record charts. This tune remained on the R&B charts at #1 for 7 weeks. The Coasters have been active since 1955. That's right, they are on their 61st year in the business. They are really a vocal group usually with 4 members that employ session musicians. Many artists have been influenced by The Coasters with The Beatles using many of their songs before they began their recording career.
