S.O.D. "Highway Song" by Blackfoot

3/31/2015     From their third studio album, "Strikes" which went platinum in 1986 seven years after it's release, comes this incredible ballad about life on the road as a band.  Written by two of the bandmembers, Ricky Medlocke on lead vocals and guitar and Jackson Spires – drums, percussion and vocals.  Released in 1979 also as a single it remains a staple during their performances usually being played at the end of the concert.

Blackfoot originated in Jacksonville Florida in 1969 with "Fresh Garbage" as their band name.  From 1969-1970 they took the name "Hammer," finally settling on Blackfoot in 1971 due to 3 of the members having Native-American heritage.  They have gone through a cast of 37 members in their 46 year span with no present original members.  In 1971 the band ceased to exist for a short period of time due to Metlock and bassist Greg Walker joining Lynyrd Skynyrd.  Blackfoot was back on track however in 1972 and are still rocking.
