S.O.D. "Cowboy Take Me Away" by the Dixie Chicks
3/31/2016 Leave it to an all girl band to derive a song title from Calgon bath and beauty products. You know, "Calgon take me away." Be that as it may, the Dixie Chicks turned it into a #1 hit, reaching the top spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs and Canada's Country Tracks. Released in 1999 and written by band member Martie Seidel and country musician, Marcus Hummon of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Rascal Flatts fame, the tune expresses the idea of tranquility which is something we all need.
Lead singer Natalie Maines received high acclaim for her vocals that are off the beaten path of routine gushy, country love songs. They have released 7 studio albums, 33 singles and are now in their 27th year of fusion. The Chicks have 47 awards to their credit, including the Bill of Rights Award presented by the American Civil Liberties Union. In the first six years of their career they did not even have a record deal.
