S.O.D. "Pencil Thin Mustache" by Jimmy Buffet
2/27/2016 A 1974 release from his album "Living & Dying in 3/4 Time," having to do with the type of mustache worn by Boston Blackie, a film character popular during Buffet's childhood. Many other references are mentioned regarding that time period including Ricky Ricardo, Errol Flynn and Brylcreem. Although "Pencil Thin Mustache" is very popular with Buffett fans, it is not part of "The Big 8" that he usually plays at concerts.
Buffet also has a career in writing and as a restaurant chain owner named after two of his biggest hits, "Margaritavile" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise". He dabbles in film producing and acting as well. In 2003 his duet with Alan Jackson for the song "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere", won the Country Music Association's award for Vocal Event of the Year. Eight of his 30 albums went gold and platinum or multi- platinum. On the New York Times Bestseller list of fiction and nonfiction, Buffet has a #1 book in both categories making him one of only eight authors in history to do so. Authors on this list include Irving Wallace, Dr. Suess, and Ernest Hemingway among others. The Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratories and Save the Manatees Club are the two organizations Buffet is active with and supports monetarily. He even has a popular Manatee named "Buffet" after him". "Parrotheads are his devoted fan base and his band is the Coral Reefer Band.
