S.O.D. "Snoopy vs. the Red Baron" by The Royal Guardsmen
2/15/2016 This is supposed to be a novelty song, but not too many of those make it to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 in Australia. Just more proof of how popular the Peanuts were. The Royal Guardsmen did not play by the rules and were eventually sued by Charles Schulz and the United Features Syndicate for not asking permission to use the name Snoopy.
They were permitted however to record more Snoopy songs like "The Return of the Red Baron," "Snoopy for President." Even "Snoopy vs Osama." At the beginning of the song there are words spoken in German which translate as "Attention! We will now sing together the story of the pig-headed dog Snoopy and the beloved Red Baron. Released in 1966 and written by Phil Gernhardt and Dick Holler. Gernhardt also produced along with John Brumage.
The Guardsmen originated in Ocala, Florida in 1966, releasing nine albums which pretty much revolves around Snoopy and the Red Baron. They disbanded in 1969.
