S.O.D. "Your Song" by Elton John

2/15/2016     This was John's first biggest pop hit released in 1970 as a single with the genre of a pop ballad.  Expressing the romantic thoughts of an innocent, "It's a little bit funny this feeling inside/I'm not one of those who can easily hide."   During a 1975 interview with Rolling Stone, John Lennon stated that when he heard "Your Song" he thought "great that's the first new thing that's happened since the Beatles".  He also said that John's vocals were an improvement over all the English vocals up until then.

On the charts it went to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, #7 on the UK Singles Chart and placed in 9 other countries.  It has reached platinum status and in 1998 was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.  Rolling Stone has ranked it at #137 on their list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.  John performed the song with Billy Joel at "The Concert for New York City" on October 20, 2001 as a tribute to the 9/11attacks.

The cover versions go on and on with the most successful by Rod Stewart in 1992 and Ellie Goulding in 2010.  On a personal note, guys, don't ever forget what color eyes your better half has.
