S.O.D. "Space Oddity" by David Bowie
1/12/2016 I'm not sure what word to use to describe this loss. Some musicians can be partially predicted in their course of musicality and genres. Others, you can listen to the finished product and know who it is, identifiable by a few tracks or all of them. These aren't bad things by any means because we're hearing and appreciating artists that are dedicated not only to their trade, but to entertaining people who may or may not be their fans, and are total strangers. Bowie was far from this with a musical genius that seems unrivaled.
Born, David Robert Jones, January 8, 1947 in Brixton, London and passing on to Music Heaven on January 10, 2016 in Manhattan, NY. Bowie did much experimentation with music, inventing genres, alter egos and stylish, captivating tunes with surprises throughout.
This song was his first Top 5 hit in the UK. He went on to record several versions, of which many relate to as "Major Tom."
Bowie made 26 albums in all, the last, "Blackstar," released January 8th on his 69th birthday, two days before his death. Bowie commented that the album was to be his "swan song" and a "parting gift" for his fans. One of his greatest vocal inspirations early on was British actor and singer-songwriter of musical theatre, Anthony Newley. As far as Bowie's influence on others, you'll thoroughly enjoy reading about that and the rest of his amazing life when you do him the honor.
