S.O.D. "Sugar Shack" by Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs

1/11/2016   Just a pure rock 'n' roll genre here that ended up being the last #1 song on the Billboard R&B chart before it was shut down for 14 months after November of 1963.  The tune also held for 5 weeks straight at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Musician/songwriter  Jimmy Torres and musician/songwriter Keith McCormack wrote the song with a bit of help from McCormack's aunt, Faye Voss.  Gilmer joined the Fireballs in the early 60s, adding piano and replacing vocalist Chuck Tharp.  Before this the Fireballs were mainly an instrumental group recording several successful singles.  George Tomsco was pretty darn good on lead guitar as well.  They released 23 singles over their career and officially dispersed in 2014.
