S.O.D. "Far From Me" by John Prine

Another fantastic artist and fine human being taken from us by this unrelenting virus.  His hometown was Maywood, Illinois, and when he was 14 his brother taught him how to play guitar.  He moved to Chicago in his late 20s and got a job as a mailman.

One night during an open mic, he was discovered by film critic Roger Ebert, who dubbed him as “a great songwriter.”  This set him on his way to becoming an important artist during the Chicago folk revival.  Prine had found a loyal partner in singer songwriter Steve Goodman and together they started their own record label, Oh Boy Records. Prine’s loyal fans sent him enough money to cover The costs of his next album.

Mr. Prine often added an air of humor to his music, and wrote about certain issues that could set people off.  He released 18 albums and was honored with several awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award and being the first singer songwriter to read and perform at the Library of Congress.  “Far From Me,” has always been his favorite.
