S.O.D. "Sheela-Na-Gig" by PJ Harvey

9/16/2016     We will keep finding nice surprises for you here at the crazy, ridiculous but intense (not really that intense) S.O.D. environment.  This alternative rock/indie rock 1992 release has to do with the statues of naked women that can be seen throughout Ireland and Britain, and display quite the exhibitionist nature.  The song references the novel "Carrie" by Stephen King, and the 1949 film and musical,  "South Pacific."  Harvey wrote the song and coproduced it along with musician and producer Rob Ellis.  It has received high praise from many critics and Spin magazine listed it at #2 on their list of The Top 20 Singles of the 1990s.

Harvey is from Bridport, England and began her career in the group Automatic Dlamini in 1988.  From 1991–1993 it was the PJ Harvey Trio; Dry and Rid of Me.  Then in 1993 she began her solo career and hasn't looked back.  Harvey has received many awards and accolades, is also an artist and actress and can play 11 instruments. Many have taken her lyrics to literally, which she explains is "a load of rubbish." To date she has created or has been a part of nine studio albums, 29 music videos, 23 singles and a ton of other musical endeavors.
