9/16/16 A lot going on with this 1983 synthpop tune that went platinum and was Cara's only #1 hit. The music was written by the singer songwriter and music producer Giorgio Moroder and the lyrics by Cara and Keith Forsey, a drummer, songwriter and record producer who spent some time drumming for Donna Summer, producing for Billy Idol, and cowriting tunes featured on movies such as Beverly Hills Cop, The Ghostbusters and The Breakfast Club.
Aside from charting in 18 countries and coming in at #1 in 11 of them, the tune placed at #3 on the year end Billboard chart. In 2004 it finished at #55 in AFI's 100 years – 100 songs for the most popular songs in American cinema. In 2004 Cara took home an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song plus a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Irene Cara is an American vocalist/pianist from New York, New York who has been active in the industry since the age of three, making 2015 her 53rd year. She was in the 1980 film Fame and wrote the theme song, "Fame" for the movie. This was her first international hit which set the stage for her career.
