S.O.D. "More Than a Woman" by The Bee Gees

9/10/2015     Two versions of the song are popular and both are featured on the soundtrack and in the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever starring John Travolta.  The 2nd version is a cover by the dynamic dancing & vocal group Tavares, which actually did better on the charts than the Bee Gees.  Both versions were released in November 1977, as a single by Tavares and on the soundtrack of the film from the Bee Gees.  On the first pressings of the Bee Gees Greatest Hits album, there is a mastering fault on the first verse of the song with the audio dipping noticeably to the right. After several thousand copies were issued, this was corrected.

It was written by the three brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, was never released as a single but remains one of their best known songs.  The group has sold more than 220 million records making them one of the best selling artists of all time. They were active from 1958-2005 and again from 2009-2012.  They wrote and produced almost all of their music as well as songs for other artists.  Younger brother Andy, who was not a part of the Bee Gees but had a solo career, and Maurice have passed on to Music Heaven.  The Bee Gees retired their name after Maurices death to represent all three brothers.

They have been inducted into six music Halls of Fame and have received 15 awards including Lifetime Achievement, the Legend Award, and Outstanding Contribution to Music.  When you mention the word disco these days, The Bee Gees will be remembered.
