S.O.D. "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" by The Police

9/12/2015     It took a while for this song to make it to an album as it was written by Sting in 1976 and released in 1981 from the album "Ghost in the Machine".  The other two members of the trio, guitarist Andy Summers and percussionist Stewart Copeland thought it was too soft for Police material.  They also at first disagreed with the addition of session keyboardist Jean Roussel, saying that he was too pushy before realizing he was really just like they were.  Keyboards are very unusual for Police songs.

The new wave/reggae rock tune charted in 7 countries, landing the #1 spot in the UK, Canada and the Netherlands.  It also hit #2 in Australia and #3 in the U.S.  Sting said of the tune, "I wrote it before the police were successful and it took a lot of convincing to make the guys realize it was a #1 hit."  Drummer Stewart Copeland remembers listening to Sting's demo from 1976 and then playing over top of it with Summers on guitar and Sting guiding them through the changes which only took one take.  "We just faced the music, bit the bullet, and used Sting's arrangements and demo. Damn"!!!

The Police were an English rock band that played a sort of rock influenced by reggae, punk and jazz. They have won many awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.  They were active from 1977–1986 and reunited for a world tour that went from early 2007 to August of 2008.  This tour made them the world's highest earning artists in 2008.  They are on VH1's and Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and 4 of their 5 albums are on Rolling Stones list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.  Sting is a multi instrumentalist among other things.  As a solo artist he has released 11 studio albums and just finished a 21 date tour in Europe.  Look him up, he is worth the read.
