9/11/2016 From the German composer Richard Strauss (1864-1949) comes this pop instrumental version from Brazilian musician and composer Eumir Deodato. It is well known for its use in the 1968 movie "2001: A Space Odyssey." Considered to be of the jazz – funk genre, it landed the 1974 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and topped out at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is from his 1973 album "Prelude."
He began his career in 1959 and is still going at it, having contributed to more than 500 albums and reaching platinum status 15 times. Some of the artists he has worked with include Frank Sinatra, Wes Montgomery, Kool and the Gang, and Bjork. A number of film scores are also to his credit.
