S.O.D. "Honeysuckle Rose" by Fats Waller

8/3/2016     Seems all the big names had a go at this 1929 ragtime number including Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Louie Armstrong.  Waller composed the song himself with lyrics by Andy Razaf.  It was featured in the Off-Broadway show "Load of Coal" and introduced as a soft-shoe dance.  Along with Waller's composition "Ain't Misbehaving," it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Waller began playing piano at age 6, advancing to organ at 10 and playing at Harlem, New York's Lincoln Theater at just 14 y/o.  Many tremendous accomplishments with this artist as well as an important inspiration to a bass drum full of musicians.  Awards and inductions have come his way, many posthumously.  In the 1977 film "Eraserhead" by David Lynch, Waller's church organ music can be heard throughout much of the movie.  The TV show "This Old House," used Waller's rendition of "Louisiana Fairytale" for its theme song for many years.  Sure, go ahead and Google him.
