S.O.D. "Theme from Jonny Quest" by Hoyt Curtain

6/6/2016     Talk about some serious action and adventure, who didn't like Jonny Quest?  What kid didn't want to be Jonny Quest?  I remember searching for this show after coming home from elementary school in The late 60s and early 70s.  Race Bannon must've been the hero for millions of children.  The voice of Jonny was done by actor Tim Matheson, the leader of the fraternity in "Animal House."

The music we heard was a big jazz band composed of six trombones, four trumpets, five woodwind doublers and a five man rhythm section. On the drums we had jazz drummer, Alvin Stoller, or  Frankie Capp, who was a member of the famous Wrecking Crew, a group of session musicians popular in the 60s & 70s based in Los Angeles and in constant demand.

Hoyt Curtin was Hanna-Barbera's main composer from 1957-1965 and again from 1972–1986, creating the scores for The Fantastic Four, Space Ghost, The Herculoids and many more.  The difficult slide trombone riflfs were accomplished by the great Frank Rosolino.  The show aired one season in 1964 and was then cancelled, mainly due to parents against violence and monsters.  There were 26 episodes in all.  Try to pay attention to the music instead of the cartoon in this video.  It's the intro and outro so keep listening as it will seem to end, but doesn't.
