S.O.D. "Shine" by Collective Soul

6/4/2015     This 1993 alternative rock hit was rated #1 for the year on Billboard's Album Rock Tracks Chart and topped that particular chart for 8 weeks.  Aside from making it to 4 different U.S. charts, it also charted in 6 other countries.  The tune's popularity led to its placement on numerous studio compilation albums and live versions on the '94 Woodstock and '99 Much of Edgefest compilations.

After the Virginia Tech massacre in April, 2007 it was revealed that gunman Cho Seung-Hui listened to the song over and over again and even wrote some of the lyrics on his wall. The band issued a statement after this saying: "It is an enormous tragedy and we deeply regret the loss of life.  The issue is not about the song. It is about the innocent lives that were lost that we regret deeply, as do all Americans."

Collective Soul formed in Stockbridge Georgia in 1992, are still active, and have recorded 7 #1 hits. The band took their name from a phrase in the 1943 novel "Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand which has sold more than 6.5 million copies worldwide.
