S.O.D. "As Time Goes By" by Dooley Wilson

6/3/2015     Originally written by Herman Hupfeld in 1931 for the Broadway musical "Everybody's Welcome," it would go on to be recorded by more than 50 different artists including Willie Nelson, ZZ Top, Bob Dylan and Barbra Streisand.  It was first performed by Frances Williams in "Everybody's Welcome" and re-introduced in 1942 for the film Casablanca and sung by Dooley Wilson which became the classic version.

In the original version the first verse of the song was omitted due to it referencing Albert Einstein and the fourth dimension, believing that it was incomprehensible to the audience.  Aside from the tune's AFI listing (American Film Institute) National Public Radio included the song in there NPR 100 which is a 1999 list of the most important American musical works of the 20th century, compiled by NPR's music editors.  It gets a "thumbs up" from the Sodville community for being a romantic piece.
