S.O.D. "You Can Call Me Al" by Paul Simon
6/19/2016 Many times great things happen by accident. In this case, calling two people by the wrong first name. Pierre Boulez is a French conductor and composer who happened to be at the same party Paul Simon and his wife Peggy were attending. It might have been the drink, the hearing, or just not giving a shit as Boulez referred to Simon as Al and his wife as Betty. The song was also inspired by Simon's trip to South Africa, and its culture.
From his 1986 album Graceland, it became his biggest single, charting in 10 countries, all in the top 10 except Canada and the U.S. Of course many people will never read this or any explanation concerning the song, and it will remain a mystery.
