S.O.D. "So Emotional" by Whitney Houston

6/18/2015     Another #1 hit for Whitney, six in all, placing her in a tie with the Beatles and the Bee Gees.  Mmmmm I wonder what tie that is?  Curious?  Take the initiative.  The tune's songwriting team, Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly wrote for many different artists including Phil Collins, The Pretenders, Madonna, The Bangles and REO Speedwagon.  The tune's drummer, Narada Michael Walden is the producer and arranger.  

     Charting in 11 different countries, it hit #1 in the U.S., #5 in the UK and #3 in Ireland of all places.  In 1988 it was the #1 hit in January on the Billboard Hot 100, preceded by George Michael's "Faith" and succeeded by "Got My Mind Set on You," G.H. Beatle.  

     Houston has been named by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most awarded female music act ever.  In the same category as AC/DC, Queen, and the Rolling Stones, she has sold more than 200 million records.  She is the only Artist in history to have 7 consecutive #1 Billboard Hot 100 hits.  All of her 10 albums have reached gold, platinum, multi platinum or diamond certification.  Her debut album, "Whitney Houston", is the best-selling debut album by a woman in history.  Another female musical icon taken from us by drugs and influential assholes.  Many African-American female musicians have been quite inspired and have drawn their courage from this amazing artist.
