S.O.D. "If" by Bread

5/26/2015     From the group's 1971 album "Manna" comes this folky, soft rock #1 single that stayed at #1 for 3 weeks on the Easy Listening Chart and went to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The tune was written by the lead singer for Bread and multi talented instrumentalist David Gates.  More than 20 different artists have done cover versions including Frank Sinatra, Jack Jones and Dolly Parton.  Ever since it's release the song has been  popular at weddings and dances, many times being used as a first dance.

It was 1968 in Los Angeles when Bread formed and supposedly took their name from a Wonder Bread truck after being stuck behind it for hours in a traffic jam.  They experienced  decent success  with quite a few top 10 singles and gold records.  They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2006.
