S.O.D. "I Wanna Be Like You" by Robert & Richard Sherman and Louis Prima

5/25/2015     This song ended up being released the same day as the Jungle Book movie in 1967.  Quite a few people got their hands into the mix starting with songwriters Richard and Robert Sherman.  The instrumental parts were first recorded by Louis Prima and his band, Sam Butera & The Witnesses.  That music however was  later replaced by the film's composer, George Bruns' own version.  The music was orchestrated by Walter Sheets.  Louis Prima is also the vocalist and trumpet player for the song.  

     The Sherman brothers were looking for more of a jazzy sound with a Dixieland-like melody.  In the movie, Baloo, the sloth bear and King Louis, an orangutan are doing the vocals and a scat session with the bear kind of repeating the orangutan but not really.  A few cover versions have also been made. Makes me want to see the movie again.
