S.O.D. "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)" by The Greg Kihn Band

5/21/2016     Who remembers this song from high school? Actually it was released in 1981 and remains one of Kihn's signature songs.  The premise of the Power pop/pop rock hit is that good break up songs just aren't written anymore.  Kihn, along with bassist Steve Wright, wrote the tune which landed on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart at #15, and climbed to #5 on the Billboard Top Tracks chart.

Kihn got his start in Baltimore Maryland entertaining coffee shops before moving to San Francisco and taking on rock 'n' roll full time.  While trying to make it on his talent, he painted houses and worked at a record store.  He has kept the band going since 1976 remaining the only constant member, now with his son Ry Kihn on guitar.  Twenty one  albums and 13 singles are to his credit with seven singles reaching the top 40.  You would definitely recognize his 1983 hit single "Jeopardy."

He holds the annual "Kihncert" in Mountain View Californiaat the Shoreline Amphitheater.  Kihn and his band open the show with Kihn usually hanging around to MC.  Many well-known acts have been featured such as the Steve Miller Band, Boston, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Yes, and many more.
