S.O.D. "Le Freak" by Chic
4/12/2015 Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers both wrote and produced this record-breaking disco single. With Edwards on bass, Rogers on guitar and both men writing and producing, Chic was sure to do something big. The biographies on both musicians are worth checking out. "Le Freak" charted in 14 countries coming in at #1 in 4 countries including the US and #2 in 5 countries.
The song has to do with a New Year's Eve party that Rogers and Edwards were invited to by Grace Jones in 1977 at Studio 54. Due to Jones' failure of communication with her security staff, Edwards and Rogers were not admitted on the premises. It is also meant to acknowledge Studio 54's discourteous doormen and the extremely long lines customers waited in.
The first #1 single for Chic, it stayed at #1 on the disco charts for 7 weeks straight and was the best selling album ever for Atlantic Records and the best-selling single for the Warner Music Group until Madonna's hit "Vogue" came along. Currently Chic is a 9 piece band with 47 past members. I remember it being played at high school dances.
