S.O.D. "Slice Of Heaven" by Dave Dobbyn and Herbs

4/6/2016     One of New Zealand's most popular songs and at times referred to as its unofficial anthem.  A 1986 release, winning that year's Best Song Award at the New Zealand Music Awards and ranking at #7 on New Zealand's Top 30 Songs of All Time list.  It also held the #1 spot on the New Zealand charts for 8 weeks and in Australia for 4.

Dobbyn was asked to compose for the animated film, "Footrot Flats: A Dog's Tale."  Based on his experience with church choirs as a boy, he brought in the Herbs band to provide vocals.  Dobbyn's vocals mixing with the Herbs received high recognition.  Featured in the song is a Japanese flute with an emulator that is synthesized.  Both Dobbyn and the Herbs, considered a reggae group, are from New Zealand and still active.
