S.O.D. "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" by Ed Bruce
3/19/2015 Remembered mainly by the 1978 version that the famous duet Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings put on, this song regarding cowboy culture was first recorded in 1975 by it's writer Ed Bruce. Bruce's version went to #15 on the Hot Country Singles chart and was chosen as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time by the Western Writers of America. Nelson and Jennings version climbed to #1 in 1978, spent four weeks at the top of the country music charts and won a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. This version was also used in the 1979 film The Electric Horseman with Robert Redford.
Ed Bruce was born William Edwin Bruce, Jr. in December 1939 and is still kicking and performing at age 75. During the 1981–82 season of Brett Maverick starring game James Garner, Bruce was a costar. His wife Patsy Bruce helped him write the song.
