S.O.D. "Set Me Free" by Velvet Revolver

3/18/2015     Three former members, Slash, Matt Sorum, and Duff McKagan all of Guns N' Roses, lead vocalist from the Stone Temple Pilots, Scott Weiland and once guitarist for Wasted Youth and Jane's Addiction, Dave Kushner, came together to create Velvet Revolver.  Active between 2002–2008, this hard rock supergroup stuck with the same members for the entire six years.  In 2004 they reached commercial success with their first album, "Contraband" and in 2005 won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance with their single "Slither".

After leaving Guns N' Roses in the late 90s, all three former members started their own solo projects before finally reuniting in 2002.  Weiland was sent new music by the Stone Temple Pilots after they disbanded into 2003. He added vocals in his own studio and eventually the song became "Set Me Free".  Velvet revolver recorded two songs with Weiland before he joined the band. One was a cover version of Pink Floyd's "Money" and the other, "Set Me Free" which were both to be included in the soundtracks for the movies The Hulk (Set Me Free) and The Italian Job (Money).  Weiland joined the band soon after.  "Set Me Free" is a 2003 release written by the entire band which made it to #17 on the Mainstream Rock Chart without any radio promotion or record label.
