S.O.D. "I Ran" by Flock of Seagulls
3/16/2015 Formed in Liverpool in 1979 by brothers Michael Score, (keyboards and vocals) and Alister Score (drums). Rounding out the new wave/synthpop group are Francis Lee Maudsley (bass) and Paul Reynolds (guitar). Their success peaked in 1982 which is the same year "I Ran" was released. The song's video still holds the record for the number of video plays on MTV mainly due to both the lack of other music videos available during that time and the viewer's demand for a futuristic look. "I Ran" is from their debut album of flock of seagulls, reached #9 in the United States, #1 in Australia and charted in seven other countries.
They took heavy criticism and were even referred to as a parody but later proved themselves to be pioneers of their musical style capturing the spirit of their time both musically and intellectually. The band is still active today with Mike Score being the only original member. In 1983 they won a Grammy Award for their song D.N.A. for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
