S.O.D. "This Heart" by Nanci Griffith

3/13/2015     From her 1994 album "Flyer" this cozy tune was written by Griffith and appears as the last track on the album.  The music on the album is mainly Griffith's original material and was nominated for Best Contemporary Folk Album at the 37th Grammy Awards.  Contributions to the album or also made by Emmylou Harris, Adam Clayton, The Chieftains, and the Indigo Girls to mention a few.  A year earlier she did win a Grammy Award for her album "Other Voices, Other Rooms" which is mainly a cover song album of the artists who were her greatest influences.  

     Griffith's band consists of Pete and Maura Kennedy, a successful folk rock husband-and-wife duo in their own right, and Pat McInerney, the group's drummer.  She refers to her band as The Blue Moon Orchestra, a reference believed to have been taken from the title of her 1984 album "Once in a Very Blue Moon."  Her success has come from performing and writing music and lyrics for herself and many other artists, birthing quite a few hits. have found success with her compositions.  "This Heart" can also be heard on the soundtrack of the 1994 movie "Milk Money" starring Melanie Griffith and Ed Harris.
