S.O.D. "Detroit Rock City" by Kiss

3/12/2016   Would you believe this tune did not chart in the U.S. even though it was the A side to "Beth."  After realizing its non-potential, the songs were reversed with "Beth" as the A side.  The 1976 hard rock/heavy metal release was written by guitarist and lead vocalist Paul Stanley along with producer Bob Ezrin.

Based on true events, it refers to a KISS fan on his way to the band's  concert who was killed in a car accident.  It ended up as one of the band's most popular songs and earned a banner that hangs from the rafters of the Palace of Auburn Hills, symbolizing the group's sellouts.  If my memory serves me right, it was a popular tune to cover by cover bands of that era.

You all know the classic line up, right?  Paul Stanley on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Gene "the tongue" Simmons on bass and back up vocals, lead guitar by Ace Frehley and Peter Criss keeping the beat.
