S.O.D. "Mursheen Durkin" by The Dubliners
3/11/2016 Of the many Celtic artists covering this classic song, we'll go with The Dubliners version. The tune goes back a long way, near the mid-late 1800s, and refers to an Irish immigrant who leaves his home country to pan for gold in California. Back in the day, people would dance to the song in the form of a folk dance or reel-the Irish term, called "Cailini deasa Mhuigheo" which means "pretty girls of Mayo."
The Dubliners were an Irish folk group active from 1962–2012. They helped to popularize their genre in Europe and remain Ireland's longest lasting music group. They received many awards, released 31 albums, 27 compilation albums and 18 singles.
