S.O.D. "Hair" by The Cowsills

2/24/2016     Yes it's from the 1968 musical and remains the groups most popular and lucrative single.  Songwriters and composers James Rado and Gerome Ragni teamed up with composer Galt MacDermot to write the song amidst the completion of the rock show which mostly deals with the era of the 60s, it's hippie counterculture and sexual revolution.  Many of the tunes from the musical went on to become anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement, a meaningful part of the play as well.

The Cowsills have been active since 1965 with one 6 year and one 10 year hiatus.  Cowsill is the last name of the current and past members who are considered a  family singing group, also providing the instrumentation. They got their start in Newport, Rhode Island and was actually the inspiration for "The Partridge Family" TV show.  they had many TV appearances and their own TV show for a while. They won one to become this spokespeople for the American Dairy Association.  They did much more than that of course, if you want to look them up. They are still active after losing 3 of the 7 members to different causes of death.  A documentary debuted on Showtime in March of 2013 called "Family Band: The Cowsills Story.
