S.O.D. "Mr Jones" by Counting Crows
2/13/2015 Lead singer Adam Duritz and the Himalayan's bassist Marty Jones are the subject of this tune. After taking in some of the inspiration for the song while watching Jones' father, David Serva, play with his Flamenco troop, they went to a bar called the New Amsterdam in San Francisco. There they saw Chris Isaac's drummer Kenney Dale Johnson sitting with three women and realized how much easier it would be to talk to women if they were rock stars. That night Duritz went home and wrote the song.
It peaked at #1 on the US Top 40 and placed on the charts of eight other countries. From the album "August and Everything After," written by Duritz and guitarist for the Crows, David Bryson, it was released in 1993 and remains the band's most popular single. In 2004 they were nominated for an Academy Award for the movie "Shrek 2" which featured their song "Accidentally in Love". Bob Dylan and Nirvana are two of the bands biggest influences.
