S.O.D. "I Was A Teenage Werewolf" by The Cramps
2/12/2016 It's Friday so let's get punky, but don't cramp up. Here we have one of the first garage punk bands in existence who based much of their music on rockabilly. They were both innovators and an inspiration to many groups following in their psychobilly (it's a genre) path. Formed by Erick Lee Purkhiser, a.k.a. Lux Interior and Kristy Mariana Wallace, a.k.a. Poison Ivy. The two eventually started a relationship and were married, becoming the only two members who held the group together from there start in 1976 until Interior's death in 2009.
They are out of Sacramento, California with their career taking off after moving to New York City and becoming a huge part of the CBGB punk rock scene, featuring groups such as The Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Television and the Patti Smith Group. The CBGB was a punk rock club in Manhattan that originally opened with the letters standing for Country, Bluegrass, and Blues. There are now CBGB music festivals that started in 2012, and the building has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Cramps released nine studio albums and 24 singles.
The thing about punk rock bands is, their songs usually don't chart and they hardly ever win awards. They're just in it for the music and they're happy when you just listen.
