S.O.D. "Suddenly Last Summer" by The Motels
10/26/2016 Good time to post this 1983 new wave release, as it indicates the end of summer. An ice cream truck which appears in the music video is driving by for the last time as the summer comes to a close. This was the inspiration for lead singer Martha Davis to write the song that was the only single by the group to hit #1 which occurred on the Billboard Top Tracks chart. "Suddenly Last Summer" is also the name of a 1958 one act play written by Tennessee Williams.
The new wave/alternative rock group got their start in Berkeley, California in 1975, took a couple of hiatuses and are still at it. Davis, the only consistent member is now touring with an entire new group of musicians. They have been renamed Martha Davis and The Motels. 11 albums and 26 singles have been released to date.
