S.O.D. "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence

11/5/2015     Talk about your gems of versatility, this tune qualifies under the genres of nu metal, alternative metal and rap rock.  Out of the 19 countries it charted in, 14 of them ranked it either #1, 2 or 3.  Due to a reference of Jesus Christ, it also ranked on the Christian charts.  The song was beginning to be heard on Christian radio stations until the band made it clear that they were not a Christian group.

The inspiration for the song was lead vocalist's Amy Lee's husband and friend, Josh Hartzler.  Lee wrote the 2003 release along with now former members, David Hodges and Ben Moody.  The song has a few different meanings as told by Lee, such as open-mindedness, and a restaurant occurrence.

The group began in 1995 in Little Rock Arkansas and since, have won 11 music awards from a total of 32 nominations.  Two of the awards were Best International Newcomer in 2003 and a Songwriter Icon Award for Lee in 2008 by the National Music Publishers Association.  Evanescence is considered by many to be more of a gothic band than rock.
