S.O.D. "I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar

11/22/2015     Can y'all handle another hard rock tune?  Ranking at #100 on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.  It has remained a staple throughout Hagar's solo career and his time with VanHalen.  Rest assured it is featured at every concert and it's what the fans want to hear, no better reason to play it.

Yes, you guessed it, the song was inspired by actual events.  After a 3 month African safari, Hagar was driving from Albany, NY to Lake Placid to see his little boy.  He was pulled over for doing 62 in a 55 and with the cop at his window he said "I can't drive 55".  Sammy immediately found a pen and paper and began writing the lyrics while the cop was writing the ticket.

Hagar has 26 albums to his credit and has been rocking since 1967.  He founded the Cabo Wabo brand of tequila and restaurant chain, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 as a member of VanHalen.
