S.O.D. "Green Tambourine" by Lemon Pipers

11/15/2015     OK, time to add the bubblegum pop genre to our brains.  It took place from 1968-1972 and again from 1977-1982.  The main bands along with the Pipers making this music were The Ohio Express, 1910 Fruitgum Company, and The Archies, who released the most successful song of this genre, "Sugar Sugar" in 1969.  The genre mainly involved singles rather than whole albums.

On the Billboard Hot 100 and Cashbox chart, "Green Tambourine" took the #1 spot in 1967.  Busking or street performing is what the tune is about with a musician trying to earn some sort of compensation for his talent.  It sold more then 2 million copies, earning a Gold record and becoming an international hit.

As is common with the psychedelic pop genre, an electric sitar was used.  Also added is a 9 piece string ensemble to accompany the band.

The Lemon Pipers originated in Oxford, Ohio and were active from 1966-1969.  In 1967 their popularity increased when they came in 2nd place in an Ohio Battle of the Bands, with The James Gang taking first.
