3/23/2023 This song was first performed by Johnny Mathis for the 1957 movie, “Wild Is the Wind.” It was composed by conductor, Dimitri Tiompkin, and lyricist, Ned Washington. Nina Simone released a version in 1959, and met Bowie for the first time in 1975. Bowie’s inspiration to record the song, came from Simone’s version, which he was deeply moved by. Bowie states the song is an homage to Ms. Simone.
