S.O.D. "Charleston Rag" by Eubie Blake

3/8/2022 This Baltimore born piano man has quite the rich history in this town. He played jazz, Ragtime, and whatever was popular. Right around four years old while out with his mother shopping, he found his way into a music store, sat on the bench in front of an organ and began to amaze the store manager. When his mother found him, the store manager told her the boy was a genius, and to please give him the opportunity to keep playing. Born in 1887 or possibly 1883, he was the only child of many to survive, born to former slaves, and make it through childhood. Of his many honors is the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and a school named after him in Cloverly, Maryland. He composed this song at age 12.
