S.O.D. "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" by Meat Loaf ft. Lorraine Crosby

2/6/2022 This brave entertainer needs a tribute, as he left us on January 20 on this year due to complications from COVID-19.

His birth name was Marvin Lee Aday. In 1984 he legally changed his first name to Michael. His stage name was dubbed much earlier by his classmates when he was in 7th grade. Being addressed mainly as M.L. due to his first two initials, this was changed to Meat Loaf, as he was 240 lbs. at 5’ 2.” This was a health condition which he could do nothing about. Meat Loaf revealed in a interview that he was bright red when he was born and remained that way for days. His father convinced the hospital staff to put the word meat on his crib, stating that he looked like ground chuck.

Born in Dallas, Texas in 1947, he move to Los Angeles at age 19 partly due to a wrecked home life after losing his mother to cancer. Shortly after this he formed his first band, Meat Loaf Soul, which was a nickname given to him by his football coach. The night of his very first gig in 1968 at a club called the Cave, his band opened for Van Morrison‘s group, Them. They would go on to open for many popular groups including The Who, The Grateful Dead, and more. During this time, the record deals started pouring in.

One of his biggest struggles was not being taken seriously by other people in the industry due to his weight. In 1970 he joined the theatrical production of “Hair” in Los Angeles. Meat Loaf went on to appear in many films and television shows, close to 100.

This song is his highest charting single, and his “Bat Out of Hell” trilogy sold over 65 million albums worldwide. Due to his name, some people in the business would not associate with him, especially vegetarians. Pretty damn silly. He also suffered from social anxiety, and rarely went anywhere while on tour except to perform. Many tributes were posted including by Bonnie Tyler, Cher, Brian May, travis Tritt, Marlee Matlin and others. Mr. Aday had two daughters. This man definitely overcame the odds to pursue his passion.
