6/14/2021 Bandleader, composer, singer, drummer, and pianist. This enthusiastic entertainer was with us for just a short time, passing in 1958 at 51 y/o. He was a mentor to many musicians and composers, and wrote a large number of R&B hits. Some of his songs helped to shape rock and roll, including “ The Train Kept A-Rolling.”
