S.O.D. "I Cried a Tear" by Lavern Baker

8/1/2020  Miss Baker went by a few different names, including Little Miss Sharecropper.  Her songs, over 70 released singles, were popular in the 50s and early 60s, with this being her most successful tune.  She often showed her daring side, being one of the first artists to try and sue another for a cover song, even petitioning Congress.  During a trip to Vietnam to entertain the troops, she became ill, taking a long time to heal at Subic Base in the Philippines.  Baker would remain there for 22 years, stepping into the position of entertainment director for the Marines NCO Club.  In 1990 at age 61, she made her Broadway debut.
