S.O.D. "Soul Vibrations" by Dorothy Ashby
9/14/2020 You would not think of the harp as a jazz instrument. This go getter, and extremely talented musician made it so. She single-handedly proved that the harp could produce a jazz sound, just as well as the piano or the clarinet. Three obstacles stood in her way; being a woman, an African-American, and the fact that hardly anyone cared about the harp, especially in a jazz setting. Years later she would be dubbed the “Most Accomplished Modern Jazz Harpist.” In 1986 she left us at the early age of 53, but her incredible, diverse music is still here.!
