S.O.D. "Daybreak in Dixie" by Sierra Hull
2/6/2019 Use whatever fantastic adjective you like, and I’m sure it will fit. Child prodigy certainly fits, as she began playing mandolin at age 8 followed with an album “Angel Mountain” at age 10. This was her own doing and not a record label’s. Rounder Records signed her at the age of 13, and released her first album, “Secrets” 3 years later. Alison Krauss began mentoring her at age 11 and nine years later they would perform together at the White House.
She has received some nice awards including the Presidential Scholar award upon graduating from high school. In 2013 the Bluegrass Heritage Foundation presented her with the Bluegrass Star Award. This award is given to bluegrass artists who do an outstanding job of advancing traditional bluegrass music and bringing it to new audiences while preserving its character and heritage. This young lady can really play.
