S.O.D. "Bush Baby" by Arthur Blythe

2/9/2019  Leaving us in 2017, this jazz saxophonist did some dazzling in his time.  Either as a leader, sideman or collaboration, he was a part of more than 60 works.  Blythe began playing saxophone at the age of nine, leaning towards R&B until he discovered jazz in his mid-teens.  During his 20s, he became a member of the Underground Musicians and Artists Association (UGMAA).  This organization was created by jazz pianist and composer Horace Tapscott, with the vision of preserving and performing African-American music.  Later, the organization kept the same acronym and was renamed Union of God’s Musicians and Artists Ascension.  Check out some of Mr. Blythe’s talent.
